Vanessa Barrera

Vanessa received her B.A. in German Studies from Macalester College in 2015. Her undergraduate work focused on German literature of the 19th and early 20th centuries, as well as European intellectual history since 1800 with an emphasis on critical theory. She completed a senior thesis entitled “Die Unmöglichkeit einer vollständigen Mitteilung. Unverständlichkeit in Schlegel und Novalis [The Impossibility of Complete Communication: Incomprehensibility in Schlegel and Novalis]” and continues to be interested in questions of (in)comprehensibility, along with those of form, style, humor, and temporality. The intersections of literature and philosophy, especially in short(er) forms of each, are her primary site of investigation at the moment. Other areas of ongoing inquiry include film, psychoanalysis, paratext, and potential.
