Howard Stern

Bio

Howard Stern received his AB from Harvard (German) in 1968 and his PhD from Yale (Comparative Literature) in 1978. He has published critical essays on Mörike, Rilke, Morgenstern, Benjamin, Celan, Concrete Poetry, music theory, and Yiddish literature, as well as original poetry and translations of German poetry from Goethe and Schiller to Morgenstern. His teaching interests include German Language, Poetry in Performance, Theory and Practice of Literary Translation, Formalism, Yiddish Language and Literature, European Literature from Homer to Dante, and Music. His special projects involve wine tasting, recitation and performance, and low-technology teaching.

Howard Stern retired after Spring term 2016.
