For Graduate Students
Thanks to the generosity of the Max Kade Foundation, the German Department at Yale offers a stipend of $1,200 for travel, course fee and accommodation for summer language study in Germany, to graduate students working on German related topics in all fields.
You can select the programs that are part of our Baden-Württemberg Exchange but you may register for and attend any program that lasts at least three weeks / 45 hours, anywhere in Germany.
Alternatively, you can propose a German related study project.
Eligibility
Yale graduate students interested in improving their German language skills or working on research-related German topics.
Open to all fields of study, open to any level of German, including absolute beginners.
Preference is given to students taking classes at the German department or working with German Department faculty.
Application
Detailed travel and study proposal, rationale for project and budget, including the program you wish to attend (include location, type of study, and link to program) or the names of faculty (and their institution) you will be working with.

We will begin accepting applications on February 6, 2024
Applications are due by March 8, 2024
Award Payment
The stipend will be paid after the travel and language study are complete. To receive the stipend, you will need to save receipts for travel and the program you participated in, and you will need to submit an application and statement about your experience in the semester after your travel.
