For Graduate Students
Thanks to the generosity of the Max Kade Foundation, the German Department at Yale offers a stipend of $1,200 for travel, course fee and accommodation for summer language study in Germany, to graduate students working on German related topics in all fields.
You can select the programs that are part of our Baden-Württemberg Exchange but you may register for and attend any program that lasts at least three weeks / 45 hours, anywhere in Germany.
Alternatively, you can propose a German related study project.
Yale graduate students interested in improving their German language skills or working on research-related German topics.
Open to all fields of study, open to any level of German, including absolute beginners.
Preference is given to students taking classes at the German department or working with German Department faculty.
Detailed travel and study proposal, rationale for project and budget, including the program you wish to attend (include location, type of study, and link to program) or the names of faculty (and their institution) you will be working with.
We will begin accepting applications after January 15, 2021
Applications are due by March 1, 2021
The stipend will be paid after the travel and language study are complete. To receive the stipend, you will need to save receipts for travel and the program you participated in, and you will need to submit an application and statement about your experience in the semester after your travel.
You may want to sign up for our German language program list, where information on German events, programs, funding, etc. will be announced
If you have questions, e.g. need help with finding an appropriate program, please contact the German Study Abroad Coordinator, Marion Gehlker at email@example.com.
