German WILL NOT participate in Preference Selection for FALL 2024.
For Fall 2024, the German Department will not run Preference Selection. Both undergraduate and graduate students who wish to take a German Language course in Levels L1 - L4 (GMAN 110, GMAN 120, GMAN 130, or GMAN 140) or Advanced German courses (courses in GMAN 150s, GMAN 160s, and GMAN 170s) will register for these courses in Yale Course Search during registration or the add/drop period.
For L1-L4 courses, a waitlist has been activated. If a section fills up and you are on the waitlist, students will be let into the course on a first come, first served basis if enrolled students drop the course.
For advanced courses, instructor permission will be required. If you are unfamiliar with instructor permission courses, please see the “When Instructor Permission is Required” section of the Registering for Courses (YC) help guide.
For students who still need to take the Department’s placement exam
(only if you have prior knowledge of German):
The German placement examination is administered online. You can access the test through this link. Once prompted, enter your Yale NetID and password.
Please contact Theresa Schenker, the Language Program Director, if you have any questions.
